We are a non-profit social dance club which was formed in April of 1995. Our original mission is to promote Country & Western dancing through dedication, friendship, trust and loyalty to fellow members and to provide service to the community and charitable organizations. Our charities of choice are the Children’s Miracle Network, added in 1995, and the Families of the Wounded Fund, added in 2008. We raise money by working at Friday Cheers, events, and by performing dance demonstrations at area nursing homes, businesses and events. Non-member income (races, demos, Friday Cheers and any miscellaneous income from a non-member) in excess of $2500.00 goes to these charities. Money for the charities are split 80% for the Children’s Miracle Network and 20% to the Families of the Wounded Fund. As of March 2014 we have given over $131,046 to the Children’s Miracle Network and $7,836 to the Families of the Wounded Fund.
We hold a monthly membership meeting which includes a family potluck dinner and dance at the Shenandoah Community Center. Everyone brings a dish to share, and we enjoy a buffet dinner prior to the meeting. To offset expenses, there is an admission fee and we ask that everyone bring their own plates, cups, beverages and utensils. The Club purchases an ABC license for the anniversary, picnic and Christmas parties, so you can bring your own alcoholic beverage if you wish. Our own deejay provides the music for dancing after the meeting. Three times per year, we host full blown parties: our Anniversary Party, a Summer Picnic, and our Christmas Party, complete with a visit from Santa for kids of all ages. Prospective members should contact a Board Officer to get a free pass for one meeting admission. Yearly membership is $26 for an individual and $49 for a couple living at the same address.
We dance and teach every Wednesday night at MI Hacienda located at 8250 Midlothian Turnpike Richmond Va 23235.
Our board is made up of elected volunteer members and we have been fortunate to have leadership that consistently puts the interests of the Club before their own. The fellowship and friendships you’ll develop are well worth the price of membership.
So please consider joining our group and doing your part to make it grow and prosper. Just complete a membership form, available on Wednesday nights, make your check payable to “Country Style Dancers of VA”, and give both to the deejay.
